BOM or Block of the Month

After years of appliqueing and making quilts using borrowed patterns from the quilting community, I had a strong desire to give back to the quilting community a pattern of my own.  I am pleased to offer a BOM pattern back to the quilting community now throughout this year that will be free to download from this website for you to use and enjoy for their own personal use.  Appliqueing and quilt making is such a loved art.  So come back here each month throughout this year and get another pattern for another block.  If you are able to keep up in not just collecting these patterns but making them up into the individual blocks, then it will only require a little more work to mount them onto your quilt backing  and you will have a lovely small quilt for yourself or for giving to someone you love

Introducing the 2017 BOM Quilt
Pretty Little Quilt BOM

bom 2017
The flavour of the applique for this quilt has soft, flowing lines somewhat reflective of the Art Nouveau movement in art in the 19th century.

This ‘Pretty Little Quilt’, 42” x 42”, has 13 blocks. The month of November will have two blocks and the final sewing instructions will be given in Dec. The applique blocks are not on point, they are horizontal, but corner triangles are put on to make them on point. The sashing has many small half square triangles, the option here is to use whole fabric instead.

The patterns will be free for you to print from this website in 2017 and available for purchase in 2018.  So enjoy the design and making of this BOM pattern of 2017.

Fabric requirements

1 ¾  yds. yellow print, for set in and corner triangles, sashing and binding

16” tone on tone white, for applique blocks

¾ yd.  plain white fabric, for half square in applique blocks

Small pieces of soft print fabric, I used fabric from the Art Gallery Collection and other Moda fabric.

Block Instructions:

Fold the background fabric in half, open the fabric and fold in half the opposite way. Line up the “X” on the pattern to the middle fold on the fabric.

Applique using your preferred method. I used the ‘freezer paper on top’ method.

Enjoy the process.!
